Umpires DJ Harper and EA Nicholls were officiating in their fifth
and eighth Tests respectively.
Australia was playing for the first time without Ian Healy in the
last five years.The last time when Healy did not appear for Australia
was in November 1994 when he could not play against Pakistan at Lahore
from 01 to 05 November 1994.Since then he had appeared in 55 consecutive
matches for Australia before announcing his retirement.
Adam Gilchrist,Scott Muller and Abdur Razzaq were making their Test
debut.Now 382 Australians and 158 Pakistanis have appeared in Test
cricket.
Adam Gilchrist made his Test debut after playing 76 One-Day
Internationals.He now holds the world record of making Test
debut after playing most ODIs.The following table lists

Australia's first innings total (575) is its fourth highest against
Pakistan and second highest on home soil.
Michael Slater completed his 13th Test hundred in his 54th Test-
his third against Pakistan.
Slater's innings is the second highest for Australia against
Pakistan at Brisbane after Greg Chappell's 201 in 1981-82.
Slater,on 22,completed 4000 runs in his 54th Test (95th innings).
He became the 16th Australian and 64th batsman in Test history to do
so.
The partnership of 269 runs between Slater and Blewett in the first
innings is the best for Australia for the first wicket against
Pakistan. The previous highest was 176 runs between Mark Taylor and
Michael Slater at Rawalpindi in 1994-95.Incidentally the previous
highest for Australia on home soil was 134 runs between Ian Davis and
Alan Turner at Melbourne in 1976-77.
This partnership is the second highest for Australia against
Pakistan for any wicket after the 279-run partnership between Mark
Taylor and Justin Langer for the second wicket at Peshawar in 1998-99.
Mushtaq Ahmed by conceding 194 runs off his bowling achieved the
dubious distinction of conceding most runs in an innings for Pakistan
against Australia.The previous record was held by Azeem Hafeez who had
the figures of 38.2-8-167-5 at Adelaide in 1983-84.Incidentally
Mushtaq's figures are the fourth most expensive for Pakistan in Test
matches after Khan Mohammad (54-5-259-0) v West
Indies,Kingston,1957-58,Fazal Mahmood (85.2-20-247-2),vs West Indies,
Kingston, 1957-58 and Haseeb Ahsan (84-19-202-6) v
India,Chennai,1960-61.
Adam Gilchrist's innings (81) is the third highest by an Australian
wickekeeper against Pakistan after Rodney Marsh's 118 at Adelaide in
1972-73 and Ian Healy's 82 at Rawalpindi in 1998-99.
Gilchrist's innings is the 11th highest by a 'keeper on Test
debut. It is also the second highest by an Australian debutant keeper
after AH Jarwis who scored 82 against England at Melbourne way back in
1884-85.
The partnership of 86 runs between Shane Warne and Scott Muller is
Australia's best for the 10th wicket against Pakistan.The previous
highest was 52 runs between Dennis Lillee and Max Walker at Sydney in
1976-77 and between Geoff Lawson and Terry Alderman at Lahore in
1982-83.
Warne's innings is the highest for Australia against Pakistan at No
8. This beats Greg Matthews' 75 at Melbourne in 1983-84.
When he dismissed Inzamam-ul-Haq in the second innings,Damien
Fleming completed 50 wickets in his 14th Test.He became the 56th
Australian and 251st bowler to do so.
The 177 run-partnership between Saeed Anwar and Yousuf Youhana is
Pakistan's best for the fourth wicket against Australia.This surpasses
the previous record stand of 155 between Mansoor Akhtar and Zaheer
Abbas at Hyderabad in 1982-83.
Saeed Anwar scored his ninth hundred in his 42nd Test and third
against Australia in his sixth Test.Anwar,infact,has now scored
hundreds in three consecutive Tests against Australia.
Anwar has now scored 784 runs in 6 Tests and 11 innings against
Australia keeping an average of 71.27.His scores against Australia read
: 85,77,15,75,30,32,145,19,126,61 and 119.
