Dawn Plan to work out impartial electoral system
5 November 1999

Islamabad, Nov 4: Dr Zafar Altaf, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board Ad hoc Committee, disclosed on Thursday that an impartial electoral system is being planned to wipe out the "persistent unhealthy influences" within the associations.

Talking to Dawn, the chairman said that over the years numerous complaints have been made about the "influence" former office-bearers of associations seem to have during the elections. He said that it was one of the reasons why new faces are not surfacing at the district as well as the divisional level associations.

The chairman clarified that no ad hoc committee members of the associations will be allowed to participate in the elections because if they are allowed, it would mean that their duties would be in direct clash of interest.

In order to hold the elections impartially and in afair manner, it is crucial that these officials are barred from participating in the elections since they can "influence" the elections, he said categorically.

For this purpose the chairman maintained that an impartial electoral system was being worked out to wipe out the unhealthy system of controlling the elections through unfair means
