The Barbados Nation Wallace set for semis
Haydn Gill - 4 November 1999

Philo Wallace is reasonably confident that he will be fit enough to take his place in the Barbados team for this weekends Final Four of the Red Stripe Bowl in Jamaica.

The Barbados captain yesterday pronounced himself 80 per cent fit following two days of treatment on a strained abductor muscle that kept him out of his teams final preliminary match on Sunday.

Its coming along nicely. Ive been icing it and Ive also been running and swimming on the beach, Wallace told NATIONSPORT yesterday after it was confirmed that Jamaica will be Barbados semifinal opponents on Saturday.

I know myself and I feel good, but I just want to make sure that everything is 100 per cent because I dont want to go out there and be a burden for my country.

I want to go out there knowing that Ill be of some assistance to them in a big way rather than being a burden.

Barbados leave Anguilla this morning, heading for Discovery Bay on Jamaicas scenic north coast.

There Wallace will get further treatment and advice from physiotherapists about playing in the tournament's second semifinal at the Kaiser Sports Club.

There was some soreness yesterday in the muscle that was strained while opener Wallace was batting in Saturdays match against Canada at the Antigua Recreation Ground.

In the end, he was run out for 45 when he attempted a sharp single to backward point and was short of his ground at the keepers end.

This (yesterday) morning it was sore. Thats because of the stretching and stuff, he said.

The first semifinal between defending champions Guyana and the Leeward Islands is scheduled for Friday. The final, which will be televised live across the Caribbean, will be played on Sunday.
