Bartleets new mercantile cricket sixes champs

Bartleet Sports Club defeated defending champions Access Group of Companies to annex the Union Assurance sponsored Mercantile six a side cricket championship in the final at the Mercantile Cricket Association grounds yesterday.

In the semi-finals Access beat Coats Tootal and Bartleets beat Arpico in fairly tall scoring matches.

Mabroc Teas who beat a strong Hatton National Bank team at the Colts grounds in a pre-quarter final match on Saturday were dismissed for 5 runs, the lowest in Mercantile six a side tournaments in their quarter final match against champions Bartleets.

Mr.H.Rehmanjee the Chief Executive Officer Union Assurance was the chief guest. Deepal Abeysekera the Assistant Marketing Manager Union Assurance and the President of the MCA, Gehan Siribaddena, also graced the occasion.

  • Access 49 for 4 (Suresh Perera 28, Sanjaya Rajapakse 2 for 6)

Awards were also presented to the following:

Best batsman: Harith Rajakaruna (Tootal Coats), Best bowler: Sanjaya Rajapakse (Bartleets), Most number of sixes: (Harith Rajakaruna and Ashan Ranaweera had 11 each, but Ranaweera was given the prize as Rajakaruna was adjudged the best batsman)

Man of the tournament: Dammika Rajapakse (Bartleets)
