Miandad denies he was consulted on hiring of Pybus Our Sports Reporter - 2 May 1999 KARACHI, May 1: Former Pakistan coach Javed Miandad has denied that he was ever consulted by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Khalid Mahmood on the appointment of Richard Pybus as technical coach. While speaking at a Meet the Press programme today at the Karachi Press Club, Mahmood claimed that he had consulted Miandad on the appointment of Pybus. Speaking from Lahore, Miandad said it was being wrongly attributed to his name that he was consulted on hiring Richard Pybus as technical coach. ``At no stage, I was consulted. In fact, the players were consulted and I only came to know about this development through my sources,'' Miandad said. Miandad argued that he was not the highest ever paid coach employed by Pakistan. ``I challenge the statement of the PCB chairman. I was getting the same amount which Intikhab Alam used to get as coach when I was playing. ``Secondly, I used to get the fee only when Pakistan were playing cricket. No play meant no money. Contrary to this, coaches were hired at a monthly salary of Rs 100,000 whether there was any cricket or not.'' Miandad said at no stage he asked for an amount which could be termed as excessive. ``I only demanded the money which I was getting in the final stages of my career.'' Miandad also denied that he discussed the 'actual reasons' for his resignation with Khalid Mahmood. ``That's untrue. I never told him why I resigned except that I had family commitments. If I have told him anything else, why is he not telling the public. As a cricket board chief, he should be straight forward.'' Miandad demanded that Khalid Mahmood should disclose the names of those who wanted my ouster. ``If he knows who is behind all this, why is he tight-lipped? He is trying to protect them? All I know is that the players didn't want me.'' Miandad, however, said he would only talk about his resignation once it was officially approved and announced by the cricket board executive council on Sunday (May 2).
