Sean Cousley produced another captain's knock to steer champions Kingston College to 266 on day two of their three-day Sunlight Cup final with Jonathan Grant High at Melbourne Oval yesterday.

At stumps, Jonathan Grant were struggling at one for one.

Scores: KC 266 after 122.1 overs; Jonathan Grant 1-1 after two overs.

After rain had prevented play for 2 1/2 sessions on Monday's first day in which only 23 overs were bowled, KC ended the day on 54 for one.

Yesterday Cousley showed his true class as he posted 96 runs with Andrew Dennis for the second wicket. Dennis was promoted in the batting ahead of key all-rounder Marlon Samuels and he and the skipper batted through the first session before Dennis was bowled just after lunch by pacer Howard Walters for a gritty 24.

Samuels came in at the fall of Dennis's wicket and did not last long as he was bowled by Walters for two at 146 for three.

KC then benefitted from several dropped catches and poor fielding by Jonathan Grant.

Cousley survived three chances to steer KC to 166 for four before he was leg before to medium pacer Richard Lewin for his team's top score of 90, made from 237 balls.

Sheldon Allman with 25 and Lincoln Granston who made 14 took KC beyond the 200 mark before tailenders Kevin Lawson with 17 and Leonard Walker, unbeaten on nine, posted a quick 27 runs for the last wicket.

Lewin ended with three for 29 from 14 overs, Walters three for 42 from 21 overs and off-spinner Andre O'Sullivan two for 31 from 24.1 overs.

Jonathan Grant, in reply, lost opening batsman Bryan Chambers caught by wicketkeeper Kevin Lawson off the first delivery of their innings by pacer Andrew Richardson.
