Parkites get a hand in the nets The Barbados Nation - 12 May 1999 There is a new bowler in Queen's Park. He's accurate, swings the ball, gets it to spin and does not tire. It's the new Bola Bowling Machine which was unveiled by Big B Spartan on Monday as the team prepared for the Barbados Cricket Association's Division 1 and Premier League competitions. The machine, which is widely used in England, was the idea of club president David Holford, who bought it via the Internet. It is powered by battery or electricity and allows deliveries of any pace, can be angled to deliver extra bounce and spin, and can also give a bias of swing. Holford said the machine was welcomed by the players and would be used to help batsmen improve strokeplay and foot movement. Richard Edwards, of sponsors Big B Supermarket, said he was pleased to continue his company's fine partnership with Spartan and the purchase of the machine was another part of the friendship.
