Aminal Islam happy for Bangladesh to be underdogs to Scotland
Tony Munro - 21 May 1999

Bangladesh captain, Aminul Islam, is playing the underdog role in the build-up to his team's "wooden-spoon" clash with Scotland on Monday.

"The inclusion of the English county players means they obviously have a stronger team since the ICC Trophy in Malaysia," Aminul said.

"And we played them up there last year and they beat us. The cold weather is a factor," the Bangladesh skipper added.

The carefully-worded 31 year old said each member of the team was focused on playing for national pride.

"We are playing bowlers of the quality of Curtly Ambrose and Walsh tomorrow and just want to do well" He said his team had learnt lessons from the New Zealand match.

"We have concentrate on batting, which we felt was the only area that let us down.

"Myself and Akram Khan played bad shots. Our batsmen didn't play according to the merits of the situation," Aminul continued.

Interestingly, Aminul said his team was not awed by the World Cup debut.

"We've played one-day internationals before against teams like India and Australia so it's nothing new."
