Royal Bangkok and Southerners favourites to progress to Thai final
Tony Munro - 8 May 1999

This weekend sees the semi-finals in both the 50-over and 25-over competitions of the Thailand Cricket League.

Top sides the Royal Bangkok Sports Club and Southerners remain favourites to go through to next week's 50-overs league final, but both face difficult semi-finals on Sunday.

RBSC will need star batsmen Luke and Lam Thongchai to make runs against the Young Thai Sikhs at the Polo Ground, and will then need to back up in the field to restrict YTSA's lively batting line-up.

Southerners, which remains the only undefeated club this season, will again field a strong side for its semi-final against this season's surprise packet, the Thai Indian Sports Club, at the RBSC Ground.

TISC, which has dominated the 25-overs league this season, has overcome a poor start to mount a challenge for both league trophies and will sorely test the Southerners' lack of recent match practice on Saturday.

In the 25-overs league semi-finals on Saturday, title favourites TISC, will need to avoid complacency to overcome the under-rated Jogani club at the Dusit Polo Club in Hua Hin.

The other match is a repeat of last year's semi-final between Hua Hin Hopalongs and YTSA at the Polo Club Ground.
