Jamaica CA launches raffle The Jamaica Gleaner - 2 March 1999 The Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) launched a fund-raising raffle at Sabina Park yesterday. A lucky ticket holder will win a 1999 Land-Rover ``Freelander'' worth JA$1.395 million. Tickets for the ``Freelander'' went on sale yesterday at the Jamaica Cricket Association offices at Sabina Park, all branches of Scotia Bank islandwide as well other ticket outlets locally at $100 each. Proceeds from the sales will go towards the JCA's cricket development programme and the welfare fund for past Jamaica and West Indian cricketers. Closing date for the raffle is August 31 with the grand draw set for Friday, October 1. Former West Indies captain Courtney Walsh purchased the first ticket. Jackie Hendricks, president of the Jamaica Cricket Association, said the abandonment of the first Test match against England last year, helped convince the local board that it could not depend solely on tickets sales to make money during Test matches. Turning to the upcoming series Hendricks called on fans to support the regional team and to put the dismal showing in South Africa behind and 'support the team as best as we can.''
