Preysal earn $9,500 in 'Savannah' cricket
Forbes Persaud - 17 June 1999

An excellent all-round performance by former National Youth player Randy Bachan enabled Clico Preysal to lift the All Sport Savannah cricket title at the Queen's Park Savannah yesterday. Preysal beat Texaco Police by 10 runs in the tournament final.

. Bachan followed up his solid knock of 28 with a four-wicket performance at a cost of just 15 runs, enabling his team to restrict the defending champs to 139 all out. Chasing 150 for victory, Police were off to a flying start as Carlton ill needing 17 runs for victory, Neptune blasted Bachan's first delivery through mid-off for a boundary. But in attempting to hit the next delivery out of the ground, he was brilliantly caught by Wazard Ali on the mid-wicket boundary. Bharath who had earlier in his innings hoisted pacer Eugene Antoine for a massive six, left one run later, caught on the boundary by Sheriff Mohammed attempting another big hit off the same bowler. Antoine completed the job when he bowled Anstey Alleyne for a duck. Antoine ended with two for 23 while Lalchan chipped in with two for 22.

Under the inspired leadership of former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop, Preysal played unbeaten in the Savannah competition. They will collect $9500 in cash for their efforts.
