Stead shrugs off disappointment The Christchurch Press - 16 June 1999 Canterbury cricketer Gary Stead was philosophical about not being called into the New Zealand team for its post-World Cup tour of England. ``That's the way it goes. I'm obviously disappointed, but it's out of my hands, there's nothing I can do,'' said Stead, who remains on stand-by in case of injuries. There had been no indication which of the six stand-by players would go to England until the selectors named Wellington opening batsman Matthew Bell, Otago wicketkeeper Martyn Croy, Otago left-arm medium-fast bowler Shayne O'Connor, and Auckland leg-spinner Brooke Walker on Monday. Former test opening batsman Bryan Young (Auckland) was also overlooked. ``I'll just have to try and prove them wrong,'' chuckled Stead in anticipation of another extensive programme next summer.
