The Electronic Telegraph Scottish Cricket: Wickets harvest for Hay
Keith Graham - 1 June 1999

Widespread rain across Scotland put paid to all but a handful of games on Saturday with the entire Premiership programme being washed out.

First Division promotion hopefuls Clydesdale were unlucky to find a rare window in the weather when, in soggy underfoot conditions at Prestwick Oval, they lost the toss and had to bat.

Scotland B paceman Marty Hay was quick to exploit the helpful conditions and former Scottish spinner Andy Tennant, bowling in tandem with Javed Ashraf, made it a miserable day for the visitors who were tumbled out for 92, Hay taking four for 29 and Tennant three for 16.

To complete an eminently forgettable day for the Glasgow team, Drew Parsons then sensibly led the home team to an eight-wicket victory with an unbeaten 34.

In the only other first division game, Drumpellier battled to a draw against Strathmore at Langloan. The visitors had reached 137, thanks largely to another up-beat innings from West Indian David Joseph (53). Veteran Billy McPate emphasised his durability with four for 35.

But Mark Mudie, too, was in good form with the ball. After an injury-ridden season last year, he captured six home wickets for 28 as Drumpellier were forced to hang on at 106 for nine.

In division two, Falkland beat the weather and Kelburne at Whitehaugh, Ryan Watson setting the pace with 60 not out to lead his team to victory with 13 overs to spare but Uddingston (213-7) were forced to share the spoils with Corstorphine who had responded with 183 for seven by the close.
