Dawn Pakistan team returns today
The Dawn - 24 June 1999

Karachi, June 23: Pakistan cricket team returns Thursday after finishing as runners-up in the World Cup. While it has been confirmed that skipper Wasim Akram, Saqlain Mushtaq, Shoaib Akhtar and Saeed Anwar would not be travelling with the team, it was unclear if any of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials will be arriving.

The chairman of the PCB Khalid Mahmood is attending the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting but there was no news regarding de facto chief executive Majid Khan. Majid had left for England earlier this month vowing to attend the conference.

It was not clear if team coach Mushtaq Mohammad and assistant coach Richard Pybus would also be arriving.

Akram is staying back in England because of his commitments with an English club while Saqlain will be appearing for Surrey in the English County Championship. Shoaib Akhtar is in the process of finalizing a deal with a county.
