Dawn Former Test players and fans disappointed
The Dawn - 21 June 1999

The cricket fans who were impatiently waiting for the World Cup Cricket final between Pakistan and Australia were greatly disappointed by the dismal performance of the Pakistan team, losing the all-important match in a heart-breaking fashion by eight wickets.

The streets were deserted during the match but the interest of the cricket enthusiasts evaporated as soon as Pakistan were bundled out for 132 with 11 overs to spare.

Small crowds turned up at the racecourse, Bagh-i-Jinnah and Gulshan Iqbal gardens where thousands of spectators had been coming to see the World Cup matches on large screens, whichwere specially installed bythe government. The contractors serving food and soft drinks to the spectators at the gardens, suffered losses.

The lovers of the game, were blaming Pakistan having gifted the World Cup to Australia with a disappointing performance.
