Schools Cricket: Lancashire double
The Lancashire Evening Telgraph - 29 June 1999

Lancashire Under 13s had a super double success last week.

They began by beating Northumberland by three wickets and they followed that with a 110-run victory against Durham at Preston.

Skipper Tom Smith led the way in the victory against Northumberland, top scoring with 89 out of Lancashire's 175-7 in reply to Northumberland's 173 all out (Stephen Parry 3-22, Chris Tye 2-8).

Burnley batsman Jonathan Clare (66) and Lancaster's Warren Quinn (34) laid the foundations for Lancashire's win against Durham with a super 102 opening partnership.

Smith also chipped in with 46 out of Lancashire's 201-3 declared, and the Junior Red Rose bowlers were also in top form bowling out Durham for 19 (Paul Tonge 5-20).

Lancashire Under 15s were not so fortunate, going down by 34 runs to Durham in their ESCA/Lords Taverners County Championship match.

Durham, batting first, made 204-3 and Lancashire fell 34 runs short on 170-7 (Andrew Griffiths 53 not out, Andrew Bentley 49).

Lancashire Under 11s had to be satisfied with a draw in their annual Roses match against Yorkshire at Saltaire CC.

Peter Walters (Salford) and Karl Brown (Wigan) top scored with 56 and 43 respectively, and Yorkshire almost made the target, finishing on 150-3 at close of play.
