The Jamaica Gleaner Jamaica Clubs: Mais flattens Kensington
The Jamaica Gleaner - 28 June 1999

Defending Champions Kingston Cricket Club ended Kensington's unbeaten run in the Sandals Limited Overs cricket tournament, defeating the Preston Road team by 126 runs at Sabina Park yesterday.

Scores: Kingston 224 for eight from 50 overs; Kensington 98 all out from 36.2 overs.

Captain Lloyd Black led the way for Kingston with an attacking 74 from 75 balls, which included one huge six and six fours as the Tigers benefited from several dropped catches and a stumping chance by a Kensington team which performed poorly in the field.

Black, who was dropped three times before reaching his half century, got useful support from veteran Terrence Corke who scored a patient 27 off 45 balls, Dwayne Buddoo 23 from 35 balls, Dwight Mais 20 from 39 balls, Valentino Ventura 18 from 44 balls and Matthew Fender 12 not out. They also got 32 extras.

Bowling for Kensington - which had won its three previous fixtures David Bernard Jnr. took three wickets for 44 from his 10 overs, while Julian Royal took two for 28 from eight overs.

Pacer Dwight Mais rocked Kensington's top order, picking up four of the first six wickets to fall as the Preston Road aggregation found it difficult to get the required runs and only Daren Powell, with a spirited 43 from 58 balls (two sixes and three fours) offered any form of resistance. They got 20 extras.

Mais captured four wickets for 14 runs from his allotted 10 overs, left-arm orthodox Matthew Fender took two for 18 from 10 overs, schoolboy pacer Andrew Richardson took two for 36 from 10 overs, while spinners Ryan Cunningham and Kerry Scott shared the other two wickets.

At Chedwin Park: St. Catherine C.C. defeated St. Mary by 101 runs.

Scores: St. Catherine C.C. 285 for seven (Curtis Francis 89, Tony Powell 43; Dervin Morand 2-39); St. Mary 184 (Ian Johnson 35; Phillip Wright 4-41).

At Lime Tree Oval: St. Catherine Parish defeated St. Thomas by an emphatic eight wickets.

Scores: St. Thomas 99 (Timmy Thomas 42, Orlando Jameson 18, Christopher Morgan 11; Kenny Isaacs 4-24, Lascelles Davis 2-28); St. Catherine Parish 101 for two (David Harrison 34 not out, Vincent Russell 24, Maurice Cole 16 not out).

At Seprod Oval: Despite Glen Anglin's hat-trick which saw Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) slide from 61 for two to 61 for five, the soldiers defeated Tivoli by five wickets.

Scores: Tivoli 98 (Alton Beswick 27; Warren Medwynter 4-32); JDF 100 for five (Marlon Kennedy 34 not out; Anglin 3-35).
