Northern League: Patel bags great eight!
The Lancashire Evening Telegraph - 5 July 1999

Outstanding individual performances with both bat and ball brought Chorley important successes in two of the three matches they contested over the weekend.

Superb bowling by paceman Iqbal Patel, who took 8-51, set up a 12 points Northern League victory over Lancaster.

The visitors lost their last eight wickets for 26 runs as Patel in his second spell ripped out seven batsmen for just 16 runs in five torrid overs

But Chorley themselves were pinned down by tight Lancaster bowling and it needed a masterly innings of 69 from Roland Horridge to steer them home.

Yesterday Chorley progressed to the last 16 of the National Knockout competition and a home tie with Harrogate next Sunday.

A typically efficient display of tight cup cricket was too much for Morecambe who were restricted to 140-9 from their 45 overs.

A sparkling 50 from Neil Bannister set Chorley on course for an eight wickets victory with Horridge, contributing 49 not out.

Despite a stunning effort from professional Josh Marquet, who took 7-10 from his nine overs, Chorley's second eleven predictably failed to make it a treble in the final of the Vaux Samson Cup at St Annes. The home side posted 193 all out and Chorley were bowled out for 89.
