Dawn Ijaz Ahmed calls on Mujib
The Dawn - 29 July 1999

Lahore, July 28: One of the three suspended Test cricketer Ijaz Ahmad met the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ad hoc committee chairman Mujeeb-ur-Rahman at the Gaddafi Stadium on Wednesday.

After the meeting, Ijaz Ahmad told reporters that the chairman advised him to meet the Ehtesab Bureau chairman Senator Saif-ur-Rahman in connection with his ``suspension made allegedly on match-fixing charges''!

While replying to a question, Ijaz Ahmad said that he did not possess exact and complete record of his property. However, he confirmed that he had one plot, each at Lahore and Islamabad, besides a house built on 10-marla plot in Lahore where he was living now.

``I am a neat and clean person and have been also paying my income tax regularly for the last eight or 10 years'', Ijaz Ahmad said.

Ijaz expressed his regrets over the fact that the Ehtesab Bureau took action of suspending the three Test cricketers (including him) without giving them an opportunity to explain their position. However, he added that he intended to fight his own case alone.

``I have reserved my right to go to the court of law as the decision of suspension has tarnished my image'', Ijaz said.

Ijaz Ahmad, who is father of four daughters, said that he would not like to earn through unfair or dubious means ('haram rizq') for his family.

Ijaz said that he learnt about the decision of his suspension through a news bulletin in Dubai on ZEE TV. He intended to go to the USA but preferred to rush to Pakistan by the first available flight.

Later, Ijaz Ahmad left Lahore for Islamabad in the afternoon and proposed to meet the Ehtesab Bureau chairman Saif-ur-Rahman there on Thursday at 11 am.
