Dawn Wasim Akram not in hospital
The Dawn - 7 July 1999

KARACHI, July 6: The family of Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has denied reports that he was admitted in a Birmingham hospital following a severe attack of diabetes.

``The story is absolute nonsense. It is concocted. I have spoken to Huma (Wasim's wife) and have been told he is perfectly alright,'' Mrs Humayun Mufti, skipper's mother-in-law, told Dawn on Tuesday evening. She admitted that she couldn't talk to Wasim ``but Huma was as much shocked to hear the news as I was.''

On Tuesday, an England newspaper quoted Akram's manager Raja Khan as saying: ``It was a severe attack of diabetes. Had he not been rushed to hospital on time, he (Wasim Akram) would have died.'' But Mrs Mufti said the story would be denied in the paper.
