Refresher course for Jamaican umpires

Steve Bucknor, Thomas Wilson and Norman Malcolm have been invited by the West Indies Cricket Board to participate in a three-day refresher course in Antigua on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The three Jamaicans are among a group of 14 first-class regional umpires who will be in attendance at the course which is being organised by the Board in association with the West Indies Cricket Umpires Association.

The course will deal with the laws of the game, playing conditions and their interpretations, the International Cricket Council's code of conduct for players and the application of the new Duckworth/Lewis method of dealing with target score in interrupted limited over matches.

The Duckworth/Lewis method will be used during this year's regional Red Stripe Bowl competition.

The discussions will be led by Nigel Plews - a former Test umpire and now a senior training officer for the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Also invited to the course is one scorer from each of the six teams involved in the regional Busta Cup four-day competition, as well as Johnny Gayle - secretary of the WICUA who assisted in the co-ordination of the course, and members of the WICUA's training committee headed by chairman Douglas Sanghue.

The Jamaicans are scheduled to leave for Antigua tomorrow.
