``I am very, very pleased,'' said Haynes after the match. ``The guys played excellent cricket.
The former right-arm legspinner and hard-hitting right-handed batsman was especially with Wavell Hinds who scored 126 batting at number three.
``He was disciplined,'' said Haynes, ``his shot selection was good, and he played some lovely strokes.''
Haynes also had high praise for pacer Dwight Mais - the newcomer who he described as a wicket-taker who swings the new ball away from the right-handers and the older ball into them, offspinner Nehemiah Perry who bowled with good control, and Christopher Gayle who he said is good but must go on and make huge scores.
Apart from his own performance, captain James Adams was also pleased with those of newcomers Mais and Gayle. ``It was a fairly good start for them, they possess the basic techniques, and this performance should keep them going.''
``This is a good start for us,'' said a satisfied Adams minutes after the victory. ``I don't think our out-cricket was as sharp as it could have been. There are areas which we need to improve, but I am happy with the way the team played.''
In response to the team's chances of winning the title, Adams replied: ``If we can keep going, who knows?''
``We still have a chance,'' said Carlisle Powell, manager of the Leeward Islands. ``Because of our preparation problems, we always start poorly, and the format of the tournament gives us a chance. The top four goes through, we can still get in, and that is what is important.''
