Sri Lanka: Delayed start drags game to a draw Richard Dwight - 21 February 1999 A delayed start on both days due to overnight rain and a marked lack of enthusiasm to get on with the game, saw the cricket encounter between St. Sebastian's and Wesley meander in an inevitable draw at Campbell Park yesterday. St. Sebastian's continuing from their score of 48 for 2 in reply to Wesley's first innings total of 186 for 5 declared, made 154 for 8 after a two hours delayed start. Towards which Sumalka Perera contributed an entertaining 76 with fourteen fours. Spinners Sajith Colombage 3 for 36 and Pubudu Chandrasekere 2 for 41 bowled effectively for Wesley. Wesley enjoying a first innings lead of 32 runs and batting a second time half an hour before tea, were forty for no loss, but with the wicket cracking up and taking spin - spinners Malshan Fernando 5 for 36 and Dilip Fernando 2 for 36 revelled to dismiss Wesley for 124 in the 18th mandatory for the match to fizzle out in a draw - Malshan was adjudge Man of the Match for his fine effort with the ball. Scores: Wesley 186 for 5 dec. and 124 (R. Wijetunge 33, M. de Silva 22, D. Jayakody 16, D. Dissanayake 12, S. Faiz 12, M. Fernando 5 for 36, D. Fernando 2 for 36).
