Sri Lanka: Madulsima Plantations - sixes champs

Madulsima Plantations coming under the Stassens Group beat Kotagala Plantation by five wickets in the final of the Inter-Plantation six-a-side cricket tournament organised by the Dimbula Athletic and Cricket Club at the Radella grounds last week.

The winners received the 'Arpico Trophy' and the tournament was sponsored by Richard Pieris and Company Limited.

In the final, Madulsima Plantation scored an emphatic win over their opponents by five wickets. Gehan Jayasekera scored 35 not out which included two fours and two sixes and he was awarded the man of the series award. He was partnered by former Peterite Chula de Alwis who made 18 not out and the two of them put on 69 runs in their opening partnership without being separated.

Kotagala Plantations made 68 for 2 wickets in their allotted five overs.

Madulsima Plantations: 69 for no loss in 4.3 overs (Gehan Jayasekera 35 not our, Chula de Alwis 18 not out) :Plate for Balangoda


In the Plate finals Balangoda Plantations also coming under the Stassens (not clear) Group defeated Kelani Valley Plantations by five runs to wrest the Plate Championship, with old Royalist Suresh Nawaratnam making a 28 .

Balangoda Plantations: 65 for 3 wickets in 5 overs (Suresh Nawaratnam 28)

Kelani Valley Plantations: 60 for in 5 overs (Roshan de Raffayal 27 n.o)

Ralston Tissera, the oldest of the famous Tissera brothers - Vernon and Michael from S. Thomas' College was the chief guest and distributed the major awards along with guests of honour P. H. A. N. Dias and Emmanuel Pieris.
