A superb knock of 114 by Suranga de Silva helped St. Sebastian's College declare their first innings at 246 for 6 on the opening day of their Elephant Lemonade Cup inter school cricket tournament match against St. Benedict's which began at Kotahena yesterday.

Royal in command

Royal were in a strong position on the opening day of their Elephant Lemonade Cup inter school cricket tournament match against St. Peter's College which began at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

After having declared their first innings at 218 for 6 Royal did well to dismiss the home side for 121 runs with Fazal Ahamed (4 for 28) and Jehan Mubarak (2 for 26) causing the damage.

Sebastianites spurred on by a fine 131 (218 minutes, 200 balls, 19 fours) from Sanjeeva Silva hit up an impressive first day total of 370 for 4 in their Premier championship match against Antonian SC at De Soysa Stadium yesterday.

Manoj Mendis who was undefeated on 72 (1 six, 6 fours) helped Silva in a fourth wicket stand of 110. The match continues today at 10 a.m.

Acting captain Russel Arnold hit a century (122 off 158 balls with 1 six, 18 fours) and shared an opening partnership of 215 with Pradeep Hewage (84) to put NCC in a strong position at 352 for 4 at close on the first day of their Premier championship match against defending champions SSC at the SSC grounds yesterday.

Naveed Nawaz also joined the run parade with an unbeaten on 70 with two sixes and five fours. The match continues today at 10 a.m.

Kanaka and Fernando help S. Thomas' to get 259/7

Two good knocks by Zakir Kanaka (92) and Gihan Fernando (77) helped S.Thomas' College declare their first innings at a formidable 259 for 7 on the opening day of their Elephant Lemonade Cup inter school cricket tournament match against St.Joseph's which began at Darley Road yesterday.

Opener Kanaka struck a dozen of boundaries while Fernando also had the same number of boundaries in his half century. But the Josephians made a strong reply and reached 139 for 3 with Ian Daniels stroking a fluent knock of 74 inclusive of four sixes and seven boundaries.
