Sri Lanka: Cricket Board's UK committee promotes game in Dambulla

The BCCSL, UK representative committee have launched a cricket development committee aimed at promoting the game of cricket in Sri Lanka. The BCCSL, UK will be aiming to encourage the game at grass roots level in the Dambulla region. Already a consignment of bats has been sent to the Dambulla regional committee.

The new venture has attracted huge support in the UK with both companies and individuals writing to Deepal Ahangama, BSSL UK treasurer requesting to join. All monies raised will be spent on cricket equipment for the Dambulla region.

The fund raising efforts of the BCCSL, UK will be given an added fillip when the World Cup dinner dance at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane takes place on the 1st of May, 1999. The event is a fund-raising event and monies raised will also go to Dambulla. The chief guests at the dinner will be Arjuna Ranatunga and the World Champions. Tickets are selling fast and people are travelling afar as Sri Lanka, Australia, Canada, United States to attend this prestige event.

Tickets for the BCCSL World Cup 99 dinner-dance are now available from the BCCSL, UK. The only official souvenir aimed at welcoming the World Champions to the UK as they prepare to defend the title will also be released on the 1st of May at the dinner.

Entertainment will be provided by the Gypsies who will be flown exclusive for the event by AirLanka, a key sponsor of the dinner. Various companies are coming forward to sponsor this important event and this will be the only key function in London where Sri Lanka will take centre stage.

The BCCSL, UK representative committee are: Asitha Jayaweera (Chairman), Ivan Corea (Secretary), Deepal Ahangama (Treasurer), Deepal Dharmasekhara, Sarath Abeysundera, Lakhi Liyanage, Alan Wahab, Dr. Daya Panditha Gunawardena and Thalath Ismail.
