Saqlain buoyed by performance By Our Special Representative - 1 February 1999 CHENNAI, Jan 31: Pakistan off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq admitted that he had lost focus after Sachin Tendulkar launched a fierce attack against him. ``I lost my focus and concentration. It was a blistering attack and for a moment I just didn't know what to do,'' Saqlain, whose bowling was pulled off for a variety of shots by Tendulkar including four boundaries in an over, said, adding: ``The lost opportunity further dented my confidence.'' ``But all the players lifted me. They told me that I was the man on whom Pakistan's hopes rested. It was a real tonic which boosted my confidence,'' Saqlain, who had match figures of 10 for 187, remarked. ``Of course the pressure was there but I am thankful to the almighty who held us achieve glory and gave the strength to perform on Indian soil,'' Saqlain said. Saqlain said though the crowd was not supporting the Pakistan team ``but everyone knew that there were millions back home who were praying for us. I am thankful to everyone who supported us.'' Saqlain said he the views that he was a one-day bowler never demoralized him. ``I respect everyone's view but as far as I am concerned, I enjoy the game whether it be Test or one-day cricket. And that's precisely why I have not set any targets for myself. My objective is to play for Pakistan and give as much performance as I can. At the end of my career I might feel that I couldn't capture 300 wickets but I will have the satisfaction of helping Pakistan win in crucial games.''
