Ribblesdale League: Harwood CC sign Indian Sugwekar
The Lancashire Evening Telegraph - 9 February 1999

Great Harwood have signed an experienced Indian batsman Shantanu Sugwekar as professional for this summer's Ribblesdale League campaign.

Sugwekar, aged 32, also bowls right-arm medium pace or off-spin and has represented his country at under-19 level.

He has played first-class cricket for a number of years for Maharashtra and West Zone and has a highest score in four-day cricket during the current season of 210 not out. In one-day cricket, his best this winter is 110.

For the past seven years, Sugwekar has also played as a league professional in Scotland and Northern Ireland for Corstorphine, Coleraine and Crindle.

Ten years ago, Poona-born Sugwekar was top of the first-class averages in India when he recorded his highest score of 299 no and averaged 133.8.

Harwood chairman Steve Pilling said: ``We have signed an experienced professional who has played club cricket over here for several years. So he knows what to expect.''
