New Zealand: South Canty moves to the top The Christchurch Press - 8 February 1999 South Canterbury took the lead in the WestpacTrust women's two-day cricket competition after an outright win over Lancaster Park-Woolston at Geraldine Domain. In its first innings, LPW was bundled out for 52 with Lisa Astle (15) the top-scorer. Selena Charteris impressed, taking three for two, and Miranda Walker claimed two for eight. South Canterbury gained a healthy 102-run advantage before declaring with Jonelle Amalfitano scoring a sound 36. LPW fared better in its second innings with the top order -- Jo Strachan 45, Pip Gilson 25 and Lisa Astle 38 -- all making useful contributions. However, its tail folded cheaply, and the side was dismissed for 145. South Canterbury reached the necessary 43 for the loss of only one wicket yesterday. Sally Frahm provided the highlight of the round, with a century for St Albans Gold against St Albans Blue. Her 105 took her side to first innings points over its club rival. Marist and East-Shirley also drew. Anna Smith made a fine half century as Marist reached 178 in its first innings. In reply, Jess Ramage steered East to first innings points with a well-compiled 89. Marist made 171 for nine in its second innings, leaving East to score 126 in 18 overs. It knocked off 95 of those runs.
