The Christchurch Press Canty's Tiffen caps meteoric rise
The Christchurch Press - 10 February 1999

Canterbury's Haidee Tiffen has capped a meteoric rise in women's cricket with her selection in the national side to play South Africa.

Yet the 19-year-old former Timaru Girls' High School player will have hardly had time to celebrate her success. Tiffen, a middle-order batsman, will be back in action today for New Zealand A against South Africa at Lincoln, before the first of the three one-day internationals, at Dunedin, on Saturday.

Tiffen was one of three new caps named yesterday in the 12-strong New Zealand team for the South African series.

The others were Central Districts' pair Kate Pulford, 19, and Donna Trow, 21.

Tiffen came to prominence two summers ago as a member of the highly successful Timaru Girls' High School side which won the Yoplait Cup.

She made her Canterbury senior debut at the start of last season, while still at school.

Canterbury's Debbie Hockley was named as captain of the side last November, after incumbent Maia Lewis was ruled out for the season following knee surgery.

The New Zealand side is: Debbie Hockley (c), Haidee Tiffen, Katrina Withers, Catherine Campbell (all Canterbury), Emily Drumm, Kathryn Ramel, Rebecca Rolls, Clare Nicholson (all Auckland), Anna O'Leary (Wellington), Kate Pulford, Donna Trow (both Central Districts), Rachel Pullar (Otago).
