Astle, Allott back in New Zealand squad The Christchurch Press - 8 February 1999 Canterbury's Nathan Astle and Geoff Allott have returned to the New Zealand one-day cricket squad after injury. They were named yesterday in the squad for the first three one-day internationals against South Africa, starting in Dunedin on Sunday. Selection panel convener Ross Dykes admitted Wellington pace bowler Carl Bulfin, who bowled with astounding pace in the Shell Cup final on Saturday, Otago's Shayne O'Connor, and Auckland's Chris Drum had all applied pressure for a pace-bowling position. ``Geoff Allott's performance in the Shell Cup final rounds and his incumbent position earned the Cantabrian his recall,'' Dykes said. Astle, who has recovered from a hand injury, replaces Bryan Young. Stephen Fleming is unavailable after the operation on his injured groin, and Dion Nash remains caretaker captain. The New Zealand one-day cricket squad for the first three one-day internationals against South Africa is: Dion Nash (c. Auckland), Matthew Horne (Otago), Nathan Astle (Canterbury), Craig McMillan (Canterbury), Roger Twose (Wellington), Chris Cairns (Canterbury), Chris Harris (Canterbury), Adam Parore (Auckland), Daniel Vettori (Northern Districts), Simon Doull (Northern Districts), Gavin Larson (Wellington), Geoff Allott (Canterbury).
