Dawn Rashid Lateef calls for making report public
Our Correspondent - 17 February 1999

HYDERABAD, Feb 16: Former Pakistan cricket team captain Rashid Lateef has called for immediate publication of report of judicial commission, headed by Justice Malik Qayyum adding that the players against whom charges of Match-fixing and betting were proved in the light of commission's report should be punished in order to restore the pride of our team and country.

He was talking to a group of sports correspondents here at Niaz Stadium Hyderabad on Tuesday.

He had to face reporters as some national newspapers have published excerpts of statement, recorded in-camera, before the judicial commission. The story has caused embarrassment to Pakistani cricketers in Calcutta.

Rashid Lateef has been quite vocal against the match-fixing and betting in the past and has expressed his views in black and white. That was why he was facing the brunt and was out of the team, a senior cricketer commented on the ouster of Lateef.

The wicket-keeper had played a 3-day match against Hyderabad division from Peshawar as a guest player in Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Grade-II here at Niaz Stadium. The match ended in a tame draw.
