Barbados 'ready' for 2000 29 December 1999
The Barbados cricket team is Y2K compliant, says coach William Bourne. He assured fans that the team will be fit, focussed and eager to go when they play their opening Busta Cup match against Guyana at Kensington Oval, January 7-10. 'The nucleus of the team is experienced and the guys know their job,' Bourne said. 'We are quietly confident of doing well, and it would be wonderful to start the new millennium by winning the Busta Cup.' Bourne, a former Barbados fast bowler, said the players were committed to retaining the region's most prestigious trophy. He said he expected them to be fit for the opening encounter, adding that the majority of the squad has been in training continuously since last year's competition and this can only serve them in good stead. The 13-member squad will intensify their preparation with net sessions at Queen's Park in the lead-up to the four-day competition. Bourne said the main focus will be on fine-tuning players' technique and ensuring that everyone was mentally prepared.
