Lords by name and by deed Louis Linton - 13 December 1999
Brathwaite?'s Construction Lords made an impressive start in the BCA Division 2 final at the Barclays ground, Highgate yesterday. The St. Lucy-based team by dismissed Barbados Fire Service for 165 and by the close, had replied with 19 for one. After winning the toss, Lords invited the Barbados Fire service to bat and off-spinner Trevor Boyce triggered a middle-order collapse after the opponents were cruising at 62 for three. Operating from the northern end, Boyce trapped opener Anderson Mapp lbw after posting 32 for the first wicket with his twin brother Alvin. Patrick Smith and Lonsdale Blake added 38 for the third wicket before Boyce, in tandem with Deryck Greaves, intervened to share six wickets. A positive eight wicket stand of 40 between Ernie Fields and Ryan Sargeant and 23 for the ninth with Wilfred Moseley brought some respectability to the Fire Service?s batting. Fields, stroking the ball well, made 38 off 69 deliveries with two fours before he was last out, bowled by David Bowen. Boyce, a former Maple Division 1 player, finished with five for 73 off 20 overs while Greaves picked up three for 29. Marcus Wickham struck an early blow for the Fire Service removing Junior Collymore, who was bowled with out scoring. But captain Douglas Johnson and Boyce batted without any further alarms until the umpires offered light seven minutes early.
