Yorkshire Top Attendance Tables
Yorkshire CCC Press Release - 6 December 1999

Figures released today show Yorkshire to have attracted the best attendances in 1999 for both PPP healthcare Championship and CGU National Cricket League matches.

Commenting upon the figures Yorkshire's Chief Executive, Chris Hassell, said it was a welcome boost to the Club's marketing efforts as well as the teams performances. Although no trophies were won the Club challenged for honours in all four competitions. Whilst the CGU attendances were enhanced by the Yorkshire Electricity promotion designed to bring new supporters to cricket, the highlight of the season was undoubtly the Day/Night match against Lancashire when 9,185 turned up. Both Scarborough matches exceeded 6,000 whilst two other Headingley matches attracted crowds in excess of 9,000.

Considering that four day cricket is not perceived as a great attraction there were excellent attendances of 10,060 (v Northants) and 13,307 (v Kent) at Scarborough whilst 6,056 watched the PPP Championship encounter against Worcester at Headingley which resulted in a resounding win for Yorkshire at 5pm on the third day.

Yorkshire's Marketing Director, Mark Newton, also welcomed the figures which confirmed the keen interest in cricket within the Broad Acres. The new identity of Yorkshire Phoenix which the Club adopted for the CGU National Cricket League attracted many new followers, particularly young people and families. This was reflected in the number of replica kits the Club sold which outstripped every other County by a considerable margin.
