The Jamaica Gleaner Rose back in contention
The Jamaica Gleaner - 17 August 1999

Pacer Franklyn Rose is now eligible to play for the West Indies.

The 25-year-old, who was at the centre of controversy with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) for not paying an alleged hotel bill and misbehavour on the ill-fated tour of South Africa, was summoned before the disciplinary committee of the board and subsequently fined and told to settle his outstanding bill in South Africa before being considered for the regional team again.

But yesterday, president of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) Jackie Hendricks, Rose has now settled his bills.

``Rose has paid both the fined imposed on him by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and his hotel bill and is now eligible for selection,'' Hendricks said.

``I don't know all the details but I think the situation with the hotel bill was a misunderstanding and it has been resolved,'' Hendricks added.

Rose has so far taken 34 wickets in 13 Tests for the West Indies.
