Dawn PCB sub-committee in a fix
M.H. Khan - 24 August 1999

Hyderabad, Aug 23: The PCB's sub-committee for Hyderabad division seemed to be in a fix over cricket affairs owing to lack of planning and professional approach by its members including convener, Rashid Bashir Mazari, who is DC Hyderabad and is busy in his administrative work.

It could be gauged from the fact that after the conclusion of 3-day trials on Sunday the names of U-19 boys were to be announced but the same could not be disclosed till the filing of this report at 7.30 pm on Monday. For a matter of record, the convener did not pay a single visit to Niaz Stadium during the 3-day proceedings of U-19 boys which could have been a sign of encouragement to the boys.

The committee is in a fix as it was running short of time. The U-19 national cricket championship's schedule has already been announced. The inaugural match of the championship is fixed between KCCA Whites and Hyderabad from September 1. On the first day, a one-day would be played and remaining 3-day have been allocated for a three-dayer. So far the names of 50 probables could not be decided following the trials. Of them later on 25 names would be announced for whom a training-cum-coaching camp would be set up from Aug 25 at Niaz Stadium.

The boy's accommodation and food were the other two significant issues as these are still to be finalised and no funds are so far allocated. The grass at the ground has not so far been mowed down.

The fault lies in the announcement of selection committee for U-19 trials regarding cricket championship except for Javed Nisar Channa, other three sub-committee members S. Abdul Aziz, Bashir Shana and Dr Iqbal Sheikh were inducted in selection committee. The selection of boys should have been supervised by another batch of cricketers which could be headed by a member of sub-committee as its chief selector as some other important responsibilities awaiting the sub-committee.
