Mujeeb says Promotion of domestic cricket PCB's top priority The Dawn - 18 August 1999 Islamabad, Aug 17: Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board Ad hoc Committee Mujeebur Rehman has said that promotion of domestic cricket was his top priority besides making a definitive attempt to clear the drawn-out match-fixing and betting issue that has plagued Pakistan's cricket for nearly four years. The chairman ad hoc committee maintained that unpopular decisions are being taken only to set the things back on the right track. ``Those who say that hasty decisions have been taken should realise that for four years country's name was being maligned with no end to the match fixing and betting charges. It is one of the reasons why the ad hoc committee has been appointed because we cannot afford to linger on with it,'' Mujeeb said. The chairman added that dissolution of cricket associations was also made in the better interest of the game but few officials who were living on cricket didn't like it. The cricket association's accounts have been frozen because there are evidence that people have taken bank loans against them, he said. Mujeeb stated that promotion of domestic cricket especially at school and university levels was his top priority. Special projects are being planned to revive the school/college cricket, he said. On Pakistan's tours to Sharjah and Toronto, it was stated that organisers at Sharjah have agreed to pay Pakistan team its due share and other benefits therefore, Pakistan team will participate. An appropriate decision about the Sahara Cup will be taken after receiving a response from the Indian Cricket Board in a couple of days.
