Trinidad: Wanderers try for quick points
Garth Wattley - 3 April 1999

With seven second innings wickets still to take, current Carib National League Division one leaders, Caroni Wanderers will be looking to grab full points and perhaps extend their lead after three rounds.

When final day third round action begins this afternoon, Wanderers' opponents, struggling Sims Central Sports resume on 108 for three, effectively just three runs to the good.

Given the home team's suspect batting this season, Wanderers will be hopeful of forcing victory against the clock. But national opener Daren Ganga is still there on 54. And the player whose West Indies visions have dimmed in recent weeks will be keen to let his bat do a lot more talking while he tries to steer his side to safety.

At Honeymoon Park, third-placed Moosai Sports will also be trying hard for full points against Clarke Road United.

Homesters have a healthy first innings lead of 161 thanks to an unbeaten century from one of the national team finds, Leon Romero.

And with Clarke Road scoring just 84 for 9 declared, Moosai will be pressing for an innings victory.

Defending champions Queen's Park, however, will have to settle for a first innings rather than an outright win at the Queen's Park Oval against Alescon Comet.

Queen's Park, having been paced by 54 from Zaheer Ali, scored 235 in their first innings. Comet ended the second day precariously placed on 97 for 5. It will take some very resolute batting from the remaining batsmen if Suruj Ragoonath, Comet captain is not to come off second best against his old side.

In the other match at Inshan Ali Park, Clico Preysal will be looking for some more bonus points when they resume on 185 for six, having already claimed first innings points from Santa Cruz Sports who made 184 in their first innings.

All matches begin at 12.30 p.m.
