Scotland call up Richards Keith Graham - 17 April 1999 West of Scotland's Australian professional Corey Richards will make his debut for Scotland in their first round NatWest tie against a Nottinghamshire County Board XI at Boghall, Linlithgow, on May 4. Richards, who is a regular in the New South Wales Sheffield Shield team and recently toured Zimbabwe with Australia A, is a prolific run scorer who took 160 off the England attack during the winter. As Scotland's overseas player, he will strengthen a side which is in effect a second string due to the absence on World Cup duty of the 15-man first-choice squad. Nevertheless, the Scots are able to include nine full caps in their 12-man squad, including Richards' club colleague Craig Wright who narrowly missed out on World Cup selection despite having taken five for 25 in Scotland's historic win over Worcestershire last season in the same competition. Douglas Lockhart, also unlucky to have been omitted from World Cup action, will lead a side which is a blend of experience and youth. The old campaigners are David Cowan and Scott Gourlay from Freuchie. Victory for the Scots would set up a home game against Dorset in the second round. Scotland Squad: D Lockhart (capt), C Richards, G Maiden, C Wright (all West of Scotland), D Cowan, S Gourlay (both Freuchie), C Smith wk, K Thomson (both Aberdeenshire), C Mackellar (West Lothian), S Crawley (Grange), A Parsons (Prestwick), D Lockie (Carlton).
