The Barbados Nation Salute to Sir Garry today
The Barbados Nation - 25 April 1999

TODAY, there will be a tribute to national cricketing legend Sir Garfield Sobers before the start of the seventh Cable & Wireless One-Day at Kensington Oval.

Sir Garry is the only living Barbados National Hero.

The tribute is being organised by the National Cultural Foundation through the Heroes' Day Committee under the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Culture.

Sir Everton Weekes will present a sculpture by Wayne Wells to Sir Garry on behalf of all Barbadians. The West Indies Cricket Board will also honour him with a ceramic piece by Bill Grace.

Apart from the presentation prior to the 9:35 a.m. start, there will be tributes throughout the day on radio stations and musical tributes and announcements on the public address system at Kensington Oval.
