The process of finding a new New Zealand cricket team coach, to replace the retiring Steve Rixon, will begin this week.

Operations manager John Reid will outline a critical path plan to a meeting of the New Zealand Cricket board on Thursday.

That is likely to recommend advertising the job worldwide in May with an appointment to be made in July, says NZC chief executive Chris Doig. ``We hope to make a decision by then because whoever gets the job must start in September with the first tour to India in October.

``People have to re-organise their lives for a job like this and need to know what's happening in advance.''

Rixon ends a three-year term when the New Zealand team finishes its tour of England at the end of August.

Doig said having a New Zealand coach was the ideal but the best candidate for the position would be appointed.

Meanwhile, Doig departs later this week for a meeting of top officials in Dubai where he hopes approval will be gained for a world test cricket championship.

Doig has been working on the concept for several years and he hopes the latest draft, working on a four-to-five-year cycle, will meet with the officials' approval.

``This is an important meeting for the proposal,'' he said.

``These are the people who will make it work. I hope we can get it through here and then the ICC should implement it.''
