Pakistan World Cup squad may be announced today Our Sports Reporter - 6 April 1999 KARACHI, April 5: Pakistan squad for the World Cup may be announced on Tuesday from Lahore while Salim Malik at last flies to Sharjah early in the morning to bolster the middle-order for Champions Trophy starting from Wednesday, informed sources said. The selection committee, which picked the side, has not been allowed to announce the side they picked and submitted the same to the Pakistan Cricket Board on March 31. The chairman of selectors Wasim Bari felt that he would have had no problems in justifying the selection of the players at a press conference. ``But it is an administrative decision taken by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).'' The former captain said the PCB chairman Khalid Mahmood had interestingly asked him to announce the 19 probables and teams for tri-nation series' in India and Sharjah. ``I announced those teams in Lahore but I have not been asked to announce the World Cup side though it doesn't bother me at all.'' Bari said he had detailed conversation with skipper Wasim Akram on telephone Monday morning. ``Wasim (Akram) has absolutely no difference of opinion about the team. But since the announcement of the side got delayed, it led to a lot of speculations in the media.'' Meanwhile, Salim Malik, the former captain, leaves for Sharjah early Tuesday morning by the national carrier. He will replace Imran Nazir who arrives from New Delhi later on the same day. The World Cup squad, submitted by the selectors, is: Saeed Anwar, Shahid Afridi, Wajahatullah Wasti, Ijaz Ahmad, Salim Malik, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Yousuf Youhana, Moin Khan (vice-captain), Wasim Akram (captain), Waqar Younis, Shoaib Akhtar, Azhar Mahmood, Abdur Razzak, Mushtaq Ahmad and Saqlain Mushtaq.
