The Christchurch Press New Zealand: All-rounders honoured

All-rounders Campbell Ogilvie and Nicola Payne won their respective Player of the Year awards from the 1998-99 Canterbury inter-club cricket season.

Ogilvie (Burnside-West) scored 1136 points for his batting, bowling, and fielding feats in the men's competition, while Payne, who plays for St Albans Blue in the women's first grade, topped that with 1224 points. She also won the Stead Rose Bowl for most runs, 794.

Debbie Hockley was the Cricketer of the Year at club and representative levels (Jean Ruddenklau Trophy), Beth McNeill (St Albans Blue) and Paula Flannery (Lancaster Park-Woolston) shared the Felton Trophy for most wickets (27), and the Zena Hocking Cup for most wicket-keeping dismissals went to Jo Strachan (LPW, 27).

Marcel McKenzie, of East-Shirley, accumulated most runs (462) in the men's first grade to win the Roger Blunt Memorial Trophy. Most wickets were taken by Darren Walker (Riccarton, 34), who received the Stephen Lester Memorial Trophy, and club-mate Blair Miller claimed the Chattel Hayes Memorial Trophy for most wicket-keeping dismissals (28).

The John Cowans awards for best under-20 players went to Michael Papps (East-Shirley, batting) and Hayden Shaw (Riccarton, bowling).

Both Umpires Association awards for sportsmanship were shared, by batsmen Tom Music (East-Shirley) and Andrew Hughes (Old Collegians) and bowlers Sam Martin (High School Old Boys) and John Quinn (LPW).

East-Shirley won the Walter Hadlee Trophy for sportsmanship in the men's first grade.
