African visitors struggle in opener
Lancashire Evening Telegraph - 28 April 1999

World Cup outfit Kenya, who were playing against a Lancashire League X1 at Alexandra Meadows today, lost their opening build-up game against Lancashire seconds at Old Trafford.

Paddy McKeown hammered the Kenya attack for 130 but the tourists would have been quite happy to restrict Lancashire to 256-5 from their 50 overs in yesterday's sunshine. Padiham pro Mark Harvey contributed 43.

They were then bowled out for 223 with Steve Tikolo scoring a stylish half century. The wickets were shared.

Captain-coach of Lancashire seconds Peter Sleep said: ``I believe it was their first game for a while and we should have won by a bigger margin. But it was our first real run out and to beat a World Cup team was no mean feat.''

The county seconds open their championship programme with a three-day game against Glamorgan at Haslingden, starting next Wednesday.
