England Contract Wrangle The Electronic Telegraph - 3 April 1999 England captain Alec Stewart said yesterday that the World Cup squad would not hold the England and Wales Cricket Board to ransom over the contract talks that are threatening to disrupt their preparation. The players are believed to want a set salary for being selected, appearance money for each game played and incentives for reaching each stage of the competition with a bonus should they become the first host country to win the World Cup, which would amount to a prize fund of around £1 million. The Board's offer is expected to be much less, though. Stewart is focusing on this weekend's back-to-back day/night fixtures against Pakistan A in Lahore.
