Heavy rain forces last-minute shift in Bali sixes
Tony Munro - 21 April 1999

The Second Bali International Sixes was held over the Easter weekend (April 3&4,1999). Heavy rains and waterlogged ground conditions forced the tournament to be hastily shifted from Sanur to the more academic surroundings of the Udayana University in Jimbaran, Bali.

The final line-up consisted of nine teams: Bali International CC "A" and "B", Bali "Geckos", Qantas from Sydney, Kelewar CC from Malaysia, Sangatta CC from Kalimantan, Sumbawa CC from the island of Sumbawa, Ceylon CC from Jakarta and Indorama CC from West Java.

Teams were divided into two groups for a "round-robin" on Saturday, the results determining the order of play for Sunday. The Plate was won by Sydney's Qantas who beat Kalimantan's Sangatta CC in the final. The Cup Final was a repeat of Jakarta's League final with Ceylon CC meeting Indorama CC. Indorama were sent into bat and after a shaky start recovered to make 51 off their 5 overs. In reply Ceylon went after the bowling in cavalier style and won easily with an over to spare.

The beleaguered "Synergy Trophy" organised by the Jakarta Cricket Association reaches it's climax next weekend (25th April 1999) with the final at Cibubur. The organisers are making every effort to ensure that this tournament, which has been badly hit by teams pulling out and a number of walkovers, ends on a grand note.
