CRICKET: Kingston College made a winning start to their 1998 Sunlight Cup campaign after completing an eight wicket victory over Mona High at Melbourne Park, Elletson Road yesterday.

Scores: Mona High 76 from 41.1 overs; KC 78 for two from 14.2 overs. Mona after winning the toss, decided to take first strike on a grassy strip and they lost their first wicket with the score on three after opening batsman Ricardo Anderson was caught behind by wicketkeeper Kevin Lawson off the bowling of off-spinner and captain Shane Brooks for one. Lamont Burke joined his captain Nedryan Russell at the crease but 14 runs later Burke became Lawson's second victim behind the stumps which came off pacer Alistair Shermon for one.

Russell top scored for the Mona team with 19, while Miguel Kentish (16) and Cordell Norris (11) were the other batsmen to reach into double figures against leg-spinner Kerry Scott who bagged four wickets for ten runs from 13 overs, Brooks two for 12 from 12 overs and Andrew Richardson two for 14 from seven overs.

Kingston College had little trouble in erasing Mona's score, losing only two wickets as opening batsman Kemar Duncan scored a quick fire unbeaten 46 from 37 deliveries, blasting his way with two huge sixes and six exciting boundaries. Brooks was the other not out batsman with four. Russell and Cordell Norris were the only successful bowlers for the Mona team, claiming one wicket each.

Today's matches are: Wolmer's Boys vs Waterford Comprehensive at Heroes Circle, Ardenne High vs Denham Town at Ardenne.
