Last week MLIO's Shawn Girdharry and Hillview's Kurvin Cumberbatch became the first two century-makers in the 1998 competition, Girdharry hitting 134 against Toco and Cumberbatch 124 against North Eastern.
Playing for his school in a second round match against El Dorado Senior at El Dorado, Persaud was in a punishing mood, blasting 20 fours and three sixes in his knock of 135 to see his team to 347 for nine declared.
He received good support from Saeed Mohammed (60) with whom he featured in a sixth wicket partnership which yielded 176 runs. Other good scores came from skipper Levi Lalloo (49) and Kevin Gangadeen(37) while leg-spinner Amir Khan's took four wickets for 127 runs to be the best bowler for El Dorado.
When the home team took to the crease, they found themselves struggling against the Barataria bowlers and at stumps they had progressed to 85 for 5, still needing 262 runs to make the visitors bat again. Marcus Bengochea was on 20 not out and he had Stephen Battoo, unbeaten on four, with him to carry the fight to the opposition.
In another North East Group match at Arima, Arima Senior were reeling at 73 for 8, still in need of another nine runs to avoid the follow-on. They were replying to the Tranquillity Government Secondary total of 182. The visitors owed their strong position to Carlon Balkaran who has so far taken four wickets for 18 runs.
Both of these matches as well as the South Central game between San Fernando Technical and Presentation College San Fernando at Tech's ground end today. Pres are 50 without loss chasing Technical's first innings total of 159.
In another game played on Saturday, Hillview College, playing at home against North Eastern College, beat their visitors by an innings and 51 runs.
The home team batted first and piled up 286 for six declared to which the visitors responded with 171. Following on, Sangre Grande were demolished for 64 by excellent bowling from Navin Ramdhanie (5/14) and Kavishti Kokaram (2/24).
