Liyanage, fine half ton for Lanka Lions

A fine half century by Suresh Liyanage enabled the touring Lanka Lions Sports Club from Australia to beat the Badulla President's XI by 47 runs in an exhibition limited-over cricket encounter played at the Badulla Esplanade.

Lanka Lions batting first scored 233 runs for 5 wickets in 30 overs, while Badulla President's XI were able to score only 186 runs for 7 wickets in spite a superb first wicket partnership of 90 runs by M. H. Hyder (47) and S. Dayaratne (45).

Badulla President's XI 186 for 7 (M. H. Hyder 47, S. Dayaratne 45, T. H. Mansoor 11, Asanka 11, Ranjith Dissanayake 14 not out, Rihan Mohamed 25 not out, Chandana Dissanayake 3 for 29, Manjula Perera 2 for 20 and M. Buhari 1 for 20).

The two teams also participated in a six-a-side encounter immediately after the encounter at the same venue and here again the visitors beat by 28 runs.

Lanka Lions 62 for 2 (Ashiq Lalani 18, Rushshan Carim 20).

Badulla President's XI 34 for 4 (S. Dayaratne 18).
